I look at a race as a success if I can answer the following criteria with a yes - Did I do my best? Did I have fun? Did I treat people with respect and make them smile?

What Do Results Mean?

Having solid race results are great. They bring a rider credibility amongst peers, provide a timing benchmark so that the rider can measure improvement from one year to the next, and are also a comparison to people around you that day. The reason people race varies from one to another.

Why do I race? While I love to battle for that top spot on the podium, the race result is minor compared to the experience. Riding a bike has taught me the kind of person I want to be and has taken me to places I never dreamed. A race result is earned from hours of dedication, commitment, hard work, life experiences, and personal relationships along the way. Personally, that's where I find value in racing. I look at a race as a success if I can answer the following criteria with a yes- Did I do my best? Did I have fun? Did I treat people with respect and make them smile? It can be difficult for racers to detach their ego from their race results and it can be a serious detriment. If a racer is too results focused, it can ruin the experience of racing and also affect how that racer may treat his/her fellow competitors. We all race because we love a challenge and work towards a goal, and the result is just the icing on the cake!
